Weekly Update from the Superintendent

February 2, 2022

Dear students, staff, families and community,

Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted another six weeks of winter, but I want to celebrate that school has not been impacted by inclement weather this week.  In addition, I want to celebrate that we have no classrooms or schools learning remotely at this time.  Thanks to our health services team, we were able to successfully bring students back to school this week.

We have hard-working and dedicated students who are accomplishing great things.  Tempest Heiner, a junior at MBHS, was recently honored as the WIAA Athlete of the Week for her accomplishments as a wrestler.  Our basketball and wrestling athletes will be in post-season competitions starting next week.  Every week you can see stories on the Mount Baker Sports Updates Facebook page about student athletes being honored. Sonia Rabang, a sophomore at MBHS, placed fourth in state for DECA Personal Finance.  The FFA Ag Mech CDE Team achieved first place last week, while the Floriculture Team won third place in recent competitions.  See more about our amazing FFA at the Mt. Baker FFA Facebook page. We also have students involved in drama, musicals, choir, and band as well as student leadership.

Donā€™t miss the Mount Baker High School production of Disney's Descendants: The Musical showing February 11 and 12 at 7:00 p.m. and February 13 at 2:00 p.m.  This is sure to delight all ages, so bring your whole family to support our Drama and Music Departments.

Please visit our website regularly for updates on vaccine clinics and access to tests, community all-age sports activities including lacrosse, and a variety of other activities and information.

Regardless of what Phil the Groundhog says, spring is around the corner.  Our greenhouse management students are planting starts that will bloom into beautiful plants and will be sold at our annual plant sale later in the spring.  Spring sports begin February 28.  Sign up on Final Forms. We can look forward to many outdoor activities in which spectators wonā€™t have to wear masks!  There are many exciting things to come for Mount Baker students, staff, and families!

Go Baker!
