MBSD seeks “For” and “Against” statement authors for February 2024 replacement levies.
The Mount Baker School District is seeking persons interested in helping write Voters’ Pamphlet statements supporting or opposing an MBSD Educational Programs and Operations Replacement Levy measure and Capital Replacement Levy that will appear on the February 13, 2024 Special Election ballot.
Information about the proposed replacement levies is posted on the Mount Baker School District Website.
State law (RCW 29A.32.280) requires that the district seek persons who want to represent the “For” and “Against” committees in the official election voters’ pamphlet. The law states in part that for each measure from a unit of local government that is included in a local voters’ pamphlet, the legislative authority of that jurisdiction “shall formally appoint a committee to prepare arguments advocating voters’ approval of the measure and shall formally appoint a committee to prepare arguments advocating voters’ rejection of the measure.”
Each committee shall have not more than three members; however, a committee may seek the advice of any person or persons. Each committee will be asked to submit a 250-word statement by December 22, 2023.
If interested in being considered by the district for appointment to either committee, please email your name, mailing address, phone number and email address to Mary Sewright, Superintendent, at msewright@mtbaker.wednet.edu no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Please indicate whether you want to participate in the Educational Programs and Operations Replacement Levy “For” or “Against” committee, or the Capital Projects Replacement Levy “For” or “Against” committee.
The Superintendent will announce the committees, assuming volunteers step forward, in her weekly communication and on the website on November 29, 2023. If a jurisdiction fails to appoint “For” and “Against” committees by the deadline, the Auditor’s Office will seek out and, whenever possible, appoint up to three members to each committee.
