Weekly Update from the Superintendent

Dear Parents, Students, Staff, and Community Members:

I am looking forward to seeing students, parents, and staff next week.  Tuesday, August 29th our elementary schools will all have school socials from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. This is a great time to connect with staff and get questions answered as well as gather with your school community.  At 12:45 p.m. on the 29th our 7th & 8th grade students have an orientation.  Ninth grade students have an orientation starting at 9:30 a.m. on the 29th.   They are meeting by the auditorium. They will work with our peer mentors and counselors, and then get a chance to receive their schedules to run through a mock bell schedule to meet all of their teachers. We want everyone to be prepared for the big day on Wednesday. There were some people who were not able to access the link I shared last week for junior high supplies.  Click here for that information.

Please remember that our 90-minute early releases for staff professional learning and collaboration will not begin until October 4th, so students will attend school all day on Wednesdays in September.  September 4th is Labor Day, so I hope everyone enjoys the three-day weekend while remembering that Labor Day celebrates the women and men who campaigned tirelessly for their rights in the labor movement of the late 19th century.

Thank you to the 139 people who completed my survey regarding the preferred mode and frequency of my communication.  The majority voted for weekly communication through email only.  Only 10% said the communication was not helpful.  I will continue to send a weekly email only. All updates will be on the website for people to access as well.

All of our high school athletic practices are underway.  We do monitor the smoke closely for the health and safety of our students and coaches.  My heart goes out to all of the people impacted by wild fires.  The loss of lives, homes, businesses, and communities is devastating.  My thoughts are also with all of the courageous first-responders who work tirelessly in the face of danger to serve families and communities.

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
