Every year, the WDRC hosts our annual Youth Peace Poetry Contest, which inspires youth to write creatively about peace. Youth ages 18 and younger who live in Whatcom County are encouraged to submit poems, songs, short stories, or any form of short creative writing peace on the theme of peace. Winners of the contest are featured in our Peace Builders Awards event and at a Village Books poetry reading event.
- Contest Requirements: must be a youth living in Whatcom County
- Possible Formats: Poems, raps, lyrics, spoken word, songs, stories, or any kind of short creative writing piece are accepted
- Theme ideas: Hope, courage, collaboration, connection, empathy, love, friendship, social justice, etc... make it your own!
- Recognition: Poetry reading at Village Books & 2023 WDRC virtual Peace Builder Awards!
Submissions open April 1 - September 22, 2023. You can submit your poem the following ways:
