Weekly Update from the Superintendent

Dear students, staff, families and community,

We have two candidates for the open District 1 School Board Director Position. Interviews will take place at the Mount Baker School District School Board meeting on Thursday, March 23 at 6:00 p.m.  The public may attend in person at the District Office or via Zoom

Elementary schools are having parent conferences this week.  This is a great time to check in on your childā€™s progress and connect with school staff.  The school and parent partnerships are vital for ensuring we are working together to meet the learning and social/emotional needs of each and every student.

Our Congressman Representative Rick Larsen visited our District last Friday.  He visited Acme Elementary to see first-hand the need to support facility upgrades for rural school districts.  He also visited Mount Baker High School.  Our ASB and FFA leaders did amazing presentations followed by a tour of our greenhouse and animal barn.  I have asked him to support our application for federal grants to address our facility needs, especially the heating system at Acme Elementary.  Over the weekend I was able to connect with the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Chris Reykdal to tell our story regarding the need for support for updating our facilities.  I believe the message is being heard, but I will continue to push for action.

Bring your family and friends to the Community Potluck on April 10 at 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the EWRRC.  The Columbia Valley Community Connections is a group of community minded people committed to improving the quality of life and community engagement in our area.  I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Mary Sewright, Superintendent
